Library and Information Services

  • Harvard. The most commonly used style of referencing worldwide. It is also known as the author-date style as each reference cited is characterised by the author's name and the publication date.
  • APA. The APA style of referencing has been developed by the American Psychological Association and is most often used in social sciences.
  • Chicago Style Documentation. A style of guide for American English published by the University of Chicago. The CMS deals with all aspects concerning editorial practice, from grammar to document preparation.
  • MLA (Modern Language Association). The MLA style isused to write papers and cite sources within the liberal arts and humanities.

Thomson Reuters EndNote

This is an efficient system for citation/reseach management. The software helps you collect, organize and share citations from library databases and catalogues. EndNote also helps you format your papers, creating bibliographies and footnotes in a wide variety of citation styles (Chicago, MLA, APA, etc.)

The Library and Information Services' Training Section provides training in EndNote.

It is a valuable all-in-one tool that integrates the following tasks into one program:

  • An online search tool – it provides a simple way to search online bibliographic databases and retrieve the references directly into EndNote
  • A reference and image database – it specializes in storing, managing, and searching for bibliographic references in your private reference library
  • A bibliography and manuscript maker – it formats citations, figures, and tables in Microsoft Word
  • A Cite While you Write feature is included
